Paz Vega is a well known Spanish actress. She was born Paz Campos Trigo on January 2nd 1976 in Seville, Andalucía and is best known for her roles in several Spanish TV shows and the hit Adam Sandler comedy ‘Spanglish’.
She attended a performance of Federico García Llorca's La casa de Bernarda Alba when she was 15 years old and had dreamed of becoming an actress ever since.
She was accepted into the Centro Andaluz de Teatro stage school and after spending two years studying there and also taking a journalism course she decided to move to Madrid.
Paz Vega made her television debut in a Spanish TV show titled ‘Menudo es mi padre’ she later went on to star in several movies including David Menkes ‘I Will Survive’ alongside Emma Suarez and Juan Diego Botto. The film also boasted a cameo from singer Boy George.
In 1999 she made her big break in 7 Vidas a series which was noted as being a kind of Spanish version of the hit American TV show ‘Friends’.
After being impressed with her previous acting roles film maker Mateo Gil offered her a role in his movie ‘Nadie conoce a nadie’ which was scripted and sound tracked by Alejandro Amenábar. She next went on to star in the film ‘Sex and Lucia’ which earned her the honour of receiving a Goya (Spain's version of an Oscar) for Best Female Newcomer.
2001 saw Paz cast as a battered wife in the movie ‘Solo Mia’ and in 2002 she appeared in another hit movie ‘Talk to her’.
In 2003 Vega took on the role of an Andalucian cigarette-girl in Vicente Aranda's Carmen, alongside Argentina's Leonardo Sbaraglia.
Her big break into the American movie scene was to come when she won the role of Flor in Adam Sandler’s film ‘Spanglish’ which highlights the barriers between languages and the ability to fall in love despite these limitations.
Since then she has had a thriving career, featuring in Morgan Freeman’s movie ’10 Items or Less’ in 2006.
Paz Vega lives with her husband and the couple have one son named Orson, born on May 2, 2007.
